There is one parable that tugs at my heart quite like no other. Although quite short the allegory that it emphasizes and shows is quite enthralling. It is this:
Mathew 13:44 "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field."
What is so encapturing about this "treasure hidden in a field". After all God is not fair.
Now before accusations of blasphemy come my way, hear this out.
God is not fair.God did not give us what we deserved.
What we deserved was to pay for our innate sin. But as an act of unfairness in love so consummate He sent his one and only Son to die so that HE may become sin.
That's not fair. Fair is getting what we deserve. What we got instead was grace.
For a lot of Christians, I think we lose sight of perspective of it all. Apathetic with the difficulties that consume us in the momentary dimensions of spatial and time. Knowing nothing more than to glorify ourselves and yet there are few things that we would risk our lives for, maybe other than ourselves.
Martin Luther Jr. stated in a speech at Detroit, "If a man hasn't discovered something he will die for, he isn't fit to live."
When one hears about missionaries that go into difficult areas of the world where persecution for faith happens, two thoughts come into mind immediately for many: fool or brave soul.
While we may not all be called specifically to a cause, we should all be willing to go if need be.
But do we really hold precious to this "treasure"? The goal of Christianity is not to get to heaven. Heaven is the means and medium to the end. The end is to be with God.
The most mind blowing this is not when a parent disciplines his or her child, but when a parent ultimately gives up on a child. Imagine being no longer the concern of the parent. Hell is mind blowing then.
Ultimately what the point is this. If this "treasure" is worth buying not only the small plot of land that surrounds it, but the ENTIRE field, how amazing is this "treasure" then?
If you are a Christian and you do not deem your faith worth dying for then what is worth dying for? If you have doubts, then maybe it's a matter of having a better understanding of what this treasure is all about.
For people who are not Christian, what is worth dying for? Cause the worst feeling in the world is opening your eyes each morning not having a purpose as to why you wake up. Not having a purpose as to why you struggle through each day not knowing what it's all for. Just think about it.
Maybe the reason why we don't know what we would die for is cause we haven't truly lived. All men die, but only some truly live.

you're right, if we got what we actually deserved, it would be unimaginable.
