There are many gifts that are bestowed upon us in our lives. Many of these are objects that we may take for granted which include food on our table, clothes on our back, and a roof over our heads.
However, speaking person wise, some of us are blessed with a far more valuable gift in this journey we call life. Some of us have been blessed with having a best friend.
Now, before we go into the cliches, Jesus Christ is suppose to be our best friend. We can tell Him anything. He will intercede on our behalf before the Father and knows our pains\struggles having been a man once Himself.
However, some of us are blessed with having a human best friend. It is quite a rare gift that we can share much of anything with another person fully knowing that he or she could take advantage of that position, but still willingly chooses not to.
Someone to confide in, someone to share burdens with (Galatians 6:2), and someone to lean on.
This is an amazing gift, an amazing blessing, and an opportunity that not all of us have the privilege to experience. Having a best friend at any point in one's life is truly something that should not be taken for granted.
Friends can come and go at anytime according to the Father's will. For some, we have had best friends our entire lives or most of our lives from which we can recall.
There is a saying that one's friends reveal oneself. Best friends do more than that however. Proverbs 27:17 says, "As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another."
Furthermore if one does not have friends in general, Solomon writes in Ecclesiastes 4:10
"If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!"
A friend is there for you when times are rough, but a best friend does oh so much more!
A best friend is someone we can count on, someone for us share intimately parts of our lives with, and just genuinely enjoy one's company with.
So if you have a best friend, be thankful but remember never to rely too heavily or much upon your best friend more so than God.
Remember, even the ones that you love can fail you. A best friend is meant to be cherished in your life, not to be crushed with a strangle.
And in the end with all this in mind understand that we are all blessed with more than we deserve. For some of us that includes having a best friend.
